With its rather dark colors, the new building is reserved on the one hand, but remains confidently present in the square with its timeless elegance. It looks like a finely crafted piece of furniture and creates a homely atmosphere.
Its design and color scheme borrows from elegant wooden boats that sail on nearby Lake Zurich, but also finds references in traditional painted bay windows and roof soffits in Zurich’s old town. It also refers to the inside of the dome of the Maillard Pavilion. This is also covered with wooden panels and painted with flower motifs in similar colors.
The wooden facades of the two components look like classic wall paneling and are each sealed with dark, glossy boat varnish, which allows the grain of the wooden panels to remain visible. At the foot of the wooden facades, a concrete bench forms a surrounding mineral base that invites you to linger. Its beige color is reminiscent of the base of the Maillard Pavilion. The wooden columns of the colonnade are painted in a deep shade of blue, which is also continued in the roof soffits, which are also subtly ornamentally painted.
